Under the aegis of Validvent Ventures GmbH, in the process of being established, Block and Start offers support for creative minds in the Web3 environment. The brains behind Block and Start are Georg Brameshuber (Head of Block and Start), Sofia Surma (Head of Block&Wine), Robby Schwertner (Head of Growth), Enea Alena Kiefer (Program Coordinator) and Clemens Otto (Co-Founder) .
The strength of the Block and Start team lies in designing, supporting and developing viable Web3 business ideas. Business angels from Vienna want to use the “Block and Start Competition” to collect project ideas and support the best of them with up to 25,000 euros. In addition to this direct investment, other support measures such as workshops on business modeling as well as sponsorship packages and network partnerships with the Block&Wine network are planned.
Georg Brameshuber explains the focus on Web3 to Cointelegraph in German with the importance of the domain: “Web3 will not only revolutionize the digital world, but also our society. Especially for start-ups, Web3 offers many chances and opportunities to help shape and develop new business models. We want to support young startups and teams with ideas for Web3 to implement.
Block&Wine Thematic Partner is a networking event hosted by the Austrian blockchain community in the heart of Vienna’s tech scene. Block&Wine Meetups are not just for applicants, but open to anyone interested in crypto and blockchain.
Sofia Surma explains to Cointelegraph which Web3 applications are particularly forward-looking and promising: “From Metaverse and NFTs to games and content creation. That’s why we’re really excited about the ideas. Personally, I find the area of digital identity, for example, very exciting. As more and more processes affecting our daily lives are digitized and, at the same time, cybercrime increases, it is clear that we must protect ourselves accordingly online”. In addition, according to the head of Block&Wine, awareness of data protection and privacy has also increased in recent years. This provides space for new ideas in a wide range of applications.
Submit Web3 projects and win funding
Interested individuals or teams can apply for funding through the Block and Start project platform. Along with a description of the business idea or business model, the existing development team or contributor to the idea should also be submitted. If applicable, additional project details, such as existing prototypes, news articles, or funding rounds, should be added.
A detailed list of requirements can be found on the application page. Projects from domains such as Web3, Metaverse, NFT, Blockchain, Cyber Security and Identity (SSI) are accepted. To apply, it is not absolutely necessary that a startup, a company or a team already exists for the project.
At the moment, however, the application is limited to the Central and Eastern European region. The competition is open to all start-ups, but “at first we are focusing on the CEE region, because we see a lot of potential there and already have a good network”, explains Georg Brameshuber. During the first competition, the organizers want to offer a stage to around 5 to 10 startups. After that, other competitions are planned.
A specific business idea in the specified areas is enough to apply for funding with a project description. Applications must be submitted no later than December 4, 2022.
