Chaos, doubt, uncertainty: since the takeover for 44 billion dollars by Elon Musk, Twitter is in a rather bad position. Bannings of journalists, back and forth with new features, blocking of links to competing social networks like Instagram and Mastodon – all of this pisses off employees, users – and now apparently Elon Musk himself.
Because Monday evening, he is now questioning himself as CEO of Twitter. “Should I resign as head of Twitter? I will stick to the results of this investigation, ”he currently asks his approximately 122 million followers. The investigation, which is embedded in one of his tweets, lasts until 12:20 p.m. Central European Time. Then it will first be a question of whether users still see him as the leader of the company, and secondly whether Musk keeps his promise.
So far, it doesn’t seem like his followers are seeing him as CEO of Twitter any longer. A clear majority of around 56% say he should step down as CEO of Twitter. In total, more than 12 million votes were cast. That’s many more votes than in his previous polls, which focused on whether he should unblock American journalists.
Tesla suffers from Twitter adventures
So at noon we will find out if Elon Musk will continue as CEO of Twitter. His management so far shows many that he is not necessarily the best at running the short message service, which is important for politicians, CEOs and journalists. More recently, Vera Jourova, vice-president of the European Commission for values and transparency, accused him of censoring the press.
In fact, Musk began giving Twitter back “absolute freedom of speech” and, among other things, also got Donald Trump’s account unblocked. The confusion on Twitter also made Tesla shareholders uneasy. The automaker’s shares have lost about 60% of their value since the start of the year. While Tesla was still worth over $1 trillion in March, it is now only around $475 billion.
Leo KoGuan, one of Tesla’s biggest shareholders, last week demanded that the electric car market leader get a new CEO. “Elon was the proud father,” KoGuan wrote in a tweet on Wednesday. “Tesla has grown, it takes a hangman like Tim Cook, not Elon.” The perception of many: Musk is too distracted by Twitter and the feuds there to continue running Tesla properly. On Monday, it will be decided how things will continue.
