With its groundbreaking success, the Korean Netflix hit series “Squid Game” is not only securing financial gains for the world’s biggest streaming service. Even fans of the brutal series, in which adults aim to earn big bucks by participating in kids’ games, can now invest in an unofficial cryptocurrency aptly named SQUID. CNBC and Fortune, among others, recently reported on the explosive rise of SQUID. According to CoinMarketCap, a SQUID is currently worth around 10.79 US dollars (around 9.34 euros).
The Squid Game Crypto has grown 382% in just 24 hours and now has a respectable total value of US$846 million (around €732 million). Over the week, the price increase even reached an insane percentage of 89,483%. When SQUID started presale on October 20, all tokens of the new cryptocurrency were reportedly sold out in just one second. The new, unofficial crypto in the series will be used as the exclusive currency for the Squid Game Project fan game, which is set to kick off in November. Similar to the Series, players can pay to enter a six-round competition, but in the worst-case scenario, they only lose their SQUID.
However, all this hype surrounding the new Squid Game Crypto should be put down with a clear warning. Various users report that they buy their SQUID, but cannot sell it on well-known crypto exchanges. However, other tech websites, such as Gizmodo, describe SQUID as an overt scam or fraud. It should therefore be emphasized once again at this point that the unofficial SQUID cryptocurrency is in no way related to Netflix or the creators of the series, and potential SQUID investors should expect a loss. full of their capital.
