– The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture’s ‘From Strike to Stroke’ exhibition showcases 64 FIFA World Cup match results in a unique human-machine collaboration
The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) celebrates the art of the beautiful game with a unique exhibition on the occasion of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The collection From strike to stroke features 64 NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) from 32 artists from the participating countries, using artificial intelligence (AI) to merge the respective artworks of the two competing countries in the 64 matches into a single artwork based on the outcome of the match. The result will be a one-of-a-kind collection of unique NFTs created through human-machine collaboration. “From Strike to Blow” until December 23 at the Msheireb Galleria Doha in Qatar.
As part of the FIFA World Cup, Ithra, which forms a cultural bridge between Saudi Arabia and the rest of the world, channels people’s passion for football into their love of the arts. The exhibition merges human and mechanical creations, combining art, sport and technology in innovative ways.
It features the work of 32 emerging and established artists, each commissioned to create a work in the colors of their country’s jersey. After each game, the AI-powered algorithm combines the artists’ creations with the game’s statistics, creating unique works that represent the game in question. The collection consists of a unique series of exhibits offered as NFTs. These crypto assets are based on blockchain technology and are created using a process similar to cryptocurrencies.
“From Strike to Blow” includes both artists who have never created NFT and pure NFT artists who have never been involved in mainstream visual arts.
“Football fans’ passion for the beautiful game can certainly be compared to the passion of art lovers,” said Dr Shurooq Amin in his curator’s commentary on the exhibition which bridges the gap between web2 and web2. web3 and between football and art, but also between human and machine as artists collaborate with AI technology to create unique NFTs that combine art, football and technology.”
