A third of companies want to invest

In a survey by the Federal Association of the Digital Economy (BVDW), more than 100 executives of digital companies and service providers were asked about the development of the Metaverse between the end of June and mid-July 2022. This is what emerges from an article in the media magazine Meedia.

According to this, 82% of respondents answered that they see great opportunities for the metaverse, especially in the fashion industry. The apparel industry already works closely with the entertainment industry, he said. We are talking about fashion shows in the metaverse and virtual branded clothing for avatars or main characters in video games to create new experiences for users.

According to the report, the marketing/PR and e-commerce sectors (87%) are expected to see the fastest development in the new digital reality. Regarding the own investment ambitions of the managers interviewed in the Metaverse area, the following result stands out: A third of respondents (35%) want to invest in the sector in the next two years. Another third (34%) said they were undecided. According to the report, 26% of respondents have no intention of investing in the virtual parallel world.

In order to develop this potential, however, the labor market in Germany must be prepared accordingly, it is also said. Above all, it is important to prepare the next generation for future technologies.

Games and NFTs criticized

The games sector in particular is considered a pioneer of the Metaverse. In recent years, the idea of an immersive virtual parallel world in the gaming sector has already been triggered by virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). The metaverse would be the logical next step.

But the gaming scene tends to criticize game developers’ plans for Metaverse, NFT and the like. This also applies to early attempts by game maker Ubisoft to integrate NFTs into new titles: in partnership with Tezos, Ubisoft allowed its users to purchase virtual items in the form of NFTs through the Quartz platform and use them in the game. The community reacted with outrage – reported BTC-ECHO.

Ubisoft is sticking with the idea for now, but has since emphasized that including NFTs in the game experience is voluntary. In this article, you can learn more about the situation in the blockchain gaming industry and its pros and cons.
