A journey into the world of crypto art

A colorful poster follows the next along Köpenicker Strasse in Berlin. “Bright Moments presents NFT Art Berlin” is written in capital letters above the artwork, which has been reduced to a few pixels. Including names like Boreta, Holger Lippmann and Tom Sachs.

NFT Art Berlin has been enchanting its visitors for a week now. We were there and take you behind the scenes of the largest crypto art exhibition in Germany to date.

Synthesis of art and electronic music

The website already shows which questions the organizers bright moment want to answer with the exhibition:

What is driving this new technology? Is it the culture? Is it the community that forms around him? Or is it capitalism?

Bright Moments Website

Already at the entrance to the former cogeneration plant in Berlin, it becomes clear that this is a fashionable event: young people in crazy clothes stand in front of the entrance, smoking, drinking and chatting enthusiastically about the latest blockchain technologies and crypto art trends. Electronic music is playing inside the huge room, screens are flashing everywhere and at first you don’t even know where to look.

The exhibition spans three floors. There would have been room for 18 floors in the powerhouse, that’s the height of the ceiling. In the lower part of the building, more than 50 high-resolution screens are suspended from the countless reinforced concrete beams of the cogeneration plant. The screens teem with fabulous beings from distant galaxies and abstract shapes that constantly intertwine. Each of these NFT artworks has already been mined and an owner is registered on the blockchain. Bright Moments experts have selected these works of contemporary art especially for the exhibition in the capital.

NFT Bright Moments Collection

The organizer’s collection Bright Moments from Los Angles is also located on the ground floor. A big advantage of digital art is that expensive works don’t have to be laboriously transported. They can easily be displayed on any screen around the world. The most expensive works of art on physical products, such as canvases, are usually packed in airtight, dark packaging due to their age and transience.

The American art house opened its first gallery in Los last April
Corners. It all started with three screens on an unplastered wall. The group around the young company is organized with the help of a DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Body). “No one expected such success in such a short time,” said Jonas Goldstein, co-founder of the company. Today, Bright Moments still likes to exhibit their works in front of bare walls. Only these walls are now several meters high and are among the most breathtaking places in the world. Via Venice Beach (Los Angles) the start-up went to New York, then to Berlin, then to London. Goldstein tells us that metropolises like Seoul, Hong Kong and Tokyo are also planned.

Exclusive NFT Club

One of the reasons for its success is that the company’s NFTs are also the community’s entry ticket (DAO). For example, the 1,000 members of the New York community – they are called CryptoNewyYorker in the scene – have the right to operate one of the 300 CryptoBerliners that the company issues. A lot of money is flowing into the business. “We invest the sales money here,” Goldstein explained, pointing to the oversized NFT Art Berlin poster at the entrance to the power plant. “We don’t pocket it,” he said confidently.

Another 300 CryptoBerliner NFTs are simply offered. So you want to open up the already very exclusive art community to other people. Someone who hasn’t had contact with the topic yet thinks twice if they should Berlin gold token bought. Only the purchase of this token, which currently costs around 1 Ether, or the equivalent of around €2,800, gives the right to buy a Berlin Collection NFT or a CryptoBerliner. The purchase is only possible on site at the NFT Art in Berlin. Owning one of these NFTs in turn means inclusion in the DAO community. Within this community, you get exclusive benefits and can buy additional CryptoCitizens, i.e. NFTs from other cities.

Live Strike from an NFT

A special part of NFT Art Berlin is Live Minting. Holders of a Golden Token can meet and interact with exhibiting artists in a private room. Here the token is exchanged and the NFT artwork code is generated in front of the visitors. At this point, however, the visitor has yet to see their purchased NFT artwork. To do this, he must leave the VIP room and enter a beam of light on the third floor of the exhibition.

Upon entering the area, NFT artwork will be displayed on the giant screen in the main lobby for the first time. Artist’s electronic music plays in the background boreta. Each CryptoBerliner is tied to an equally unique, code-generated on-site musical loop – a successful fusion of the digital and real worlds.

Tokenized Music

At a quarter to ten, all the screens on the ground floor suddenly go black. Shortly after, the Bright Moments logo appears. Crowds ascend the stairs to the third floor, which is now open not just to Golden Token holders, but to everyone. They gather in front of the big screen in the main lobby. A countdown begins. For the next 30 minutes, a white animated bar spins on the screen in front of around 1,000 viewers. The focus should be on the music. The work is presented here Einstein on the beach like NFT.

Techno and the CryptoBerliners

Afterwards, all CryptoBerliners extracted during the evening will be presented again with their unique musical loop. Here and there, a group of young people cheer when their CryptoBerliner appears on the screen. It’s crazy how happy one can be with a pixelated photo at 3000 euros. But the euphoria isn’t just about getting the picture, it’s the feeling of being part of the Bright Moments community.

The evening is coming to an end. The NFT community dances, drinks and talks animatedly. A Detroit DJ keeps the crowd pumping out techno late into the night.
