The American start-up 3DOS has set itself the goal of making a significant contribution to shaping the future of decentralized manufacturing. Designers should be able to upload their ideas through its new blockchain-based platform and everyone should be able to make the products themselves. Behind the idea is a well-known name in the 3D printing industry.

Silicon Valley startup 3DOS says on its website that its goal is to build the world’s largest on-demand manufacturing network on a blockchain. 3DOS wants to use it to solve the slow supply chain process from design to production to delivery. The company explains that it still takes too much time and money to go from idea to finished product on the market. 3DOS aims to enable manufacturing anywhere, improving the process in several ways.

From design to product in hours
3DOS wants everyone to be able to bring a product to market and produce goods almost risk-free with just one click. The idea comes from John Dogru, the founder of 3DPrinterOs, a platform that powers 3D control systems. The platform connects desktop 3D printers to a network like desktop PCs do to a server. 3DOS relies on the 3DPrinterOS framework to create a manufacturing network. The user can request a build and submit it to an appropriate manufacturing facility. There are currently 9 million designs in 3DPrinterOS being migrated to the 3DOS blockchain.
The company also anticipates that it will introduce a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) by charging a flat fee of $10 for each design or product uploaded to the network. Designers can earn royalties each time their designs are printed. The global supply chain will evolve towards decentralized and localized manufacturing. Companies protect their copyrights and thus guarantee their authenticity. The network uses NFT-based blockchain technology for this.
3DOS about his vision
John Dogru describes his vision for 3DOS as follows;
“3DOS’ vision is to create the world’s largest peer-to-peer manufacturing network, allowing anyone to upload a design, receive royalties, and have it manufactured anywhere in the world. 3DOS instantly connects demand and supply in real time – so products are made locally as needed: no waste, no warehousing, no international shipping.
